People run for all kinds of reasons. I run for the numbers. The addition of miles to my personal distance record. The subtraction of inches from my belt size. The subtraction of minutes (or seconds) from my personal records. The hours of better sleep I get.
I find motivation in the math and confidence in the calculations. I love how it all adds up to great things. So I thought I’d share some of the numbers from my running experiences. I’m NOT a professional runner (heck, I just started on May 1, 2010). I’m just a regular guy putting one foot in front of the other–as fast as he can.
I hope you enjoy the read. Please subscribe, comment, question, and more.

Thank you for the ‘hello’–from both Trent and I! I’m glad you came across the blog! We’re enjoying our time overseas, and I definitely continue to be proud of his accomplishments on and off the court. Best of luck to you in all of your running endeavors…and have a blast with the marathon tomorrow!

I know the feeling about running for numbers. It’s gotten to the point where I’m unsure if I could just leave the house and run without a GPS watch, or even just a regular stopwatch. Once I turned running into something like personal time trials, my activity went through the roof. That, and when I realized that half marathons gave medals to finishers. Strange are the things that motivate us …
Loved your comment about how you can’t leave the house without your GPS watch. Even when I occasionally hit the treadmill, I still take my Garmin so I can track my steps with my foot pod (the distance calculator is all screwed up, but at least it counts my steps). I can’t run without counting something, and without gauging my progress towards my next goal…
Love your blog! I’m a fellow runner in Boston, starting in November 2009. I’ll be following along – great goals for this year!
Thanks, Kelly. Nice to e-meet you. Happy miles to you.
