A few follow-up thoughts to my race recap yesterday of the 2012 Rockford Half Marathon.
1. Meeting a Fellow Daily Miler
In the finisher’s area at last Sunday’s Rockford Half Marathon, I thought I recognized one of the people that I’m connected with on Daily Mile. As she was approaching me, I said “Lynn?” It was her. She and her husband had just finished as well, and she’s the first “online running partner” I’ve met in person.
She had signed up to run the full marathon and made a wise decision to take the split at 12.5 miles and just finish the half instead. She’s amazing. She was basically running the same pace as me but was on track for the full marathon. Wow.
It wasn’t until later in the week that I realized that I had an email in my Daily Mile inbox. I’ve been using “NumberzRunner” as my first name on my Twitter, WordPress, and Daily Mile accounts, and she admitted that she had no idea what my name was! To set the record straight, it’s Jack. And I think I might need to change my profile settings now. LOL.
2. My Splits
Realized this morning that I hadn’t included my splits with my race recap yesterday. Slipped my mind since I hadn’t stopped my watch right away at the finish line. But here they are. You can tell I just blew up around mile 10.
3. My Place
I knew it was hot during the race. I knew a lot of people melted. But I never imagined I’d finish as high as I did.
I ended up eighth in my age group (35-39). Holy cow! That was a huge surprise to me.
I was also 49 out of 740. Again, a huge surprise.
Today’s Run
Knowing the temps were supposed to top out around 97 again today, I decided to head out in mere 80-degree weather around 7am this morning for an easy four. It’s my first run of any kind since last Sunday’s Rockford Half Marathon. I hadn’t felt normal again until Friday, but it felt like it was time to run again. I don’t have any races scheduled until the end of August, but I also feel like I need to find something.
Miles: 4
Time: 32:27
Pace: 8:07 min/mile

I can’t believe the temps you’re having up there. Welcome to my world. And those splits are great. You have gotten so speedy! Must be all that hockey reffing. I have no races on my radar and that makes me feel antsy.
Ha, I forgot your name as well but it is highly unlikely we ever race together! Great job on the race again and look at that mile 9 time!
