As a numbers guy, I was thrilled to get an email from the organizers of the Fox Valley Marathon with the following stats from this year’s race.
Fun Facts from the 2011 Fox Valley Marathon:
- 235 Registrants in the Inaugural Kids Marathon (click for details from a previous post on this unique opportunity for the little racers)
- 23.5% First time marathon finishers
- 37.5% First time half marathon finishers
- 20.6% Boston Qualifiers
- 58.5% Boston attempts that qualified (Note: you could indicate your intentions when you registered)
- 4:38 Average 2010 USA marathon finish time
- 4:14 Average 2011 Fox Valley Marathon finish time, a difference of 24 minutes
- #15 Current position on the US list of top Boston Qualifiers from #30 in 2010!
And they’ve already announced the date for next year’s race: September 16, 2012
Sounds like someone’s already thinking about next year . . . And Boston, perhaps?
The past 12 months of training and racing has been a blast, so I’m definitely looking forward to upping my game in 2012.
But a BQ time is still a long long ways off for me…
